I’m going to start off by getting everyone to picture this… a newborn baby breast-feeding from his or her mother.Now picturre that same newborn baby or better yet full-grown human drinking milk from a cow utter. Does that seem weird to you? Have any of you ever thought about the fact that humans are the only species that drink milk from another species? This is all due to the Milk Myth that cow’s milk is nature’s perfect food.
Did you know that ALL cow’s milk (regular and organic) have 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol? Most cows’ milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics, blood, pus, feces, bacteria, and viruses.
Cows milk is suppose to be the best source of calcium right?
Well where do the COWS get calcium for their big bones? Yes… from plants! The calcium they consume from plants has a low amount of magnesium… necessary for the body to absorb and USE the calcium. The calcium in cow’s milk is basically useless because it has insufficient magnesium content. The nations with the highest amount of milk/dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis.
Milk has been thought of as “liquid meat” because of its high protein content, which, in concert with other proteins, may actually LEACH calcium from the body. Again being why Countries that consume high protein diets (meat, milk and dairy) have the highest rates of osteoporosis.
So the claim that milk is a great source of Protein is yet another milk myth!
Also 87% of milk is water. That makes it VERY expensive water.
An article on the reputable site WebMD explains that the Harvard School of Public Health believes cow’s milk recommendations are a “step in the wrong direction.” We are going to take a step in the right direction and discuss alternative sources of milk!
