I’m sure you have seen the advertisements telling you to drink chocolate milk after your workout to refuel your body to become strong or skinny or however, you want to look. Now that is some false advertising! Check out my post on. “The Milk Myth” to see why I disagree with this claim.

There is an important window of time after your workout which is approximately thirty to forty-five minutes in which it is important to refuel your body with the proper nutrients to increase the benefits from your workout and to avoid muscle breakdown. I always try to consume my post-workout snack or meal within that forty-five-minute window after completing my workout. I have the perfect post-workout smoothie, which is packed with potassium to replenish the electrolytes lost in your workout, protein to feed those muscles, and magnesium to help your body recover! Plus its delicious and tastes like dessert…. sign me up!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of greens (spinach or kale)
  • ½ a banana
  • 1 medjool dates
  • 2 cups of unsweetened nut milk (coconut and almond milk are my favs in this smoothie)
  • 2 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 3 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
  • Optional- scoop of plant based protein powder
