holiday weight gainTis’ the season- filled with holiday cheer! Sometimes too much….which can turn into New Years tears.

That doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself….just be smart about your indulgences so that you are still able to fit into that little black dress.

Tips to prevent that holiday bulge:

  1. Don’t restrict yourself completely:
  • Choose your treats wisely- go for your moms baked goods that you can only enjoy once a year. Not the store bought stuff that’s always around! Always homemade vs. store bought.
  • Keep healthy snacks readily available to stop you from breaking into the holiday cookie jar: protein balls, almonds, quinoa salad ect
  1. NEVER show up to a party hungry:
  • Eat a healthy meal before you go to prevent you from snacking on the unhealthy stuff you will later regret
  • Fill your plate with lots of greens- choose the healthier snacks such as veggies and hummus
  • Bring a healthy dish to the party and snack on that
  1. Don’t fall out of routine:
  • Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you have to abandon your routine
  • Try and stick with your normal routine at least until the evening
  • Start your day off “clean”- begin your morning with lemon water and smoothies, and a good hearty breakfast- this will help with the cravings
  1. Limit Carbs:
  • Greens greens greens! Try to limit carbs when at all possible- that is what causes those cravings
  1. Limit Alcohol:
  • If you must drink stick to wine and spirits
  • Avoid sugary drinks
  • Hydrate, when your drinking alcohol always drink lots of water
  1. Don’t Stop Exercising:
  • Change up your exercise routine to make it more exciting, this will make you more likely to stick with it
    • Take it outside; snowshoeing, skating, walking ect.
  1. Don’t be afraid to say no thank-you!
  • If its going to be something you know you will regret later just say no thank-you

Enjoy the holidays and treat yourself, just don’t over do it!
