Brushing my skin, really? Normally don’t you only brush your hair and teeth? That is what I first thought too! When I was first introduced to dry skin brushing I wasn’t sure what to think, sounded painful and just strange. After trying this out for a while I was hooked. So many amazing health benefits come from this quick and easy habit- after all skin is the bodies’ largest organ, it could use some extra lovin’!
The benefits of dry skin brushing:
• Increases circulation-which in turn reduces the appearance of CELLULITE!! For most women this benefit alone is reason enough
• Stimulates the lymphatic system which eliminates waste and helps the body detoxify
• Exfoliation- this brush helps shed those unwanted dead skin cells, leaving skin brighter
• Helps reduce ingrown hairs
• Stress reduction- dry skin brushing is a form of message which can be very relaxing and help with muscle relaxation
• Reduces bloating- detoxifying through the lymphatic system helps eliminate water and toxins which improves digestion and lessens bloating
After reading all of those wonderful benefits I bet your wondering- how do I do this??
• First off- you will need to purchase a high quality brush with natural bristles. Its best if the brush has a long handle for those hard to reach places
• When dry skin brushing you must always brush towards your heart using small smooth circular motions→ start at the bottoms of your feet→ brush upwards in a circular motion to your legs, torso, back, arms, and chest
• Avoid brushing your face or anywhere with sensitive skin
• You can expect your skin to be a little pinkish when you finish. Don’t apply too much pressure, as you don’t want this to be painful
• This process can take anywhere from 1-15 minutes→ I tend to do this quite quickly
• Be sure to follow this with a shower Dry brushing can be done daily- first thing in the morning before you shower is the best time to do this, but can be done any time of the day. Give it a try, your body with thank you!
