So I’m sure you have heard of one of the latest health food crazes CHIA!! But what is chia?? This super food is small black and white seeds, which are packed full of nutrients! Chia seeds have been around for a long long time…. they were an ancient secret used for strength and endurance. Chia seeds are great to add to recipes such as smoothies, salads, sprinkle on top of yogurt and cereal. You can also use chia seeds as an egg substitute when baking. I’m going to share with you one of my favourite chia recipes, CHIA PUDDING! First lets start with why chia seeds are such an amazing super food!
Benefits:
- Glowing hair, skin and nails- chia is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, they are actually the richest plant source of Omega 3’s
- High in fiber- this helps regulate bowel movements, reduce inflammation and cholesterol
- Helps keep your body energized- they are packed full of magnesium, potassium and calcium
- Regulate blood sugar levels- this is done by regulating insulin levels
- Dyslipidemia- lowers “bad” cholesterol and increases “good” cholesterol
- Easily digested
- Gluten-free
- Satisfy hunger- the protein and fiber helps control cravings longer
- Minerals- chia is packed full of many minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese
- Rich in antioxidants- helps protect the body from cancer, free radicals and premature aging
- Long shelf life- due to the high antioxidant levels they can last up to 2 years without refrigeration
Ingredients:
1 cup of almond milk
2 tablespoons of chia
¾ cup of fruit (I use raspberries, blueberries or strawberries)
5 drops of stevia sweetener (can use powder or liquid form)
Directions:
- Combine ingredients together in a mason jar or glass jar with a lid
- Cover and shake well
- Set aside for 15 minutes, then shake again
- Place in fridge overnight or for a minimum of 5 hours
- Eat and enjoy!!
Chia pudding can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator and makes a great breakfast or healthy dessert!
