There is a lot of hype around apple cider vinegar these days…. people claim it is a cure all remedy. But what is it?? And what does it really do??
ACV has been known as a super-treatment for decades. There are many claims around ACV, the ones I am going to talk about today are the ones that have been proven and have the strongest effect!!
First off…. what is apple cider vinegar??
- Vinegar is a product of fermentation; this is a process where sugars in a food are broken down by bacteria and yeast. These sugars are turned into alcohol in the first stage of fermentation. Then if alcohol continues to ferment further this is when you get vinegar! Vinegar can be made from all sorts of things, but of course ACV comes from pulverized apples.
Now for the most supported claims of ACV
- The potassium aids in workout recovery and helps beat exhaustion
- The pectin helps relieve cramps as well as prevent heartburn and indigestion
- Fibre helps speed up transit time and flush the toxins out of your system
- It has antibiotic properties which boost immunity and helps fight off the common cold
- Vinegar helps whiten teeth and kill bacteria building up in your mouth (you can gargle with AVC)
- Some studies have shown that vinegar helps lower glucose levels
- Also helps break down fats so that your body is able to take it out of storage and use it!
- Has been linked to weight loss
Here is the tricky part… how do you make it tolerable enough to drink??
- The taste is very sour when taking it alone. I personally just plug my nose and take 1-2 tbl every morning, but if that is too gross for you here is another option!
- 1 tbl ACV
- 8 oz. of filtered water
- 2 oz. of organic apple juice
- A dash of stevia (optional)
Make sure you buy natural or organic apple cider vinegar! Try and make this part of your morning routine, you will get use to the taste!!
